>> the massive storm will impact some 75 million americans. washington will be among the hardest hit areas. forecasters call up to three feet of snow in the d.c. region by sunday. blizzard watches and warnings new york. and we have got a team of path. we begin with omar villafranca in charlotte, north carolina. >> reporter: a mix of rain, ice and snow is falling here in the charlotte area and starting to accumulate. we peeled this off of a car windshield. 6 inches in the forecast but the threat of icy roads could make driving dangerous and deadly. winter storm warnings are rare in the deep south and overnight brought dangerous freezing conditions. in little rock, arkansas, blinding snow and ice forced cars off highways. numerous crashes and at least

starts falling. charlie? >> thanks, kris. the giant winter storm is causing a widespread travel mess. more than 2,300 flights today have been cancelled so far. around the same number of flight is scrapped tomorrow. david begnaud is at philadelphia international airport with the travel chaos. david, good morning. >> reporter: charlie, good morning. up. 122 already in philadelphia and two lines moving steadily behind me and everyone trying to get one of the last flights out of town. the departure board is all white and that is good news. that means the flights out of here are all running on time. most major u.s. airlines have cancelled a bulk of their flights across the northeast ahead of this storm. americanairlines cancelled all flights. busiest hubs.

late last night, donald trump dismissed "national review" as a dead paper not many read any more and said more on twitter but because twitter never forgets it was there last april trump called "national review "a true conservative voice that needed to be saved. ronald reagan is the best on conservatism. now now trump is in a testy fight with ted cruz. >> if you think the last time we beat the washington cartel, it was 1980. the reagan revolution. >> reporter: bob dole said trump is widely disliked and loyalty parts was also wrong about ronald reagan. >> i would admit mr. dole said we need somebody to go to washington and cut a deal. well, the american people understood that's not what we needed. >> cruz is going down! >> reporter: donald trump campaigning in las vegas also invoked reagan and said he is ready to make deals.

tomorrow night "48 hours" live to tell shares a remarkable tale of survival. a 19-year-old woman was attacked at her apartment complex in southern california. for 18 years her case remained unsolved until a stunning twist in the case. correspondent erin moriarty shows us how one of the suspects turned out to be a hollywood actor. here's a preview of her report. >> i had been referenced as jane doe for many years. i was kidnapped, i was tortured and i was left for dead. >> reporter: it was the summer, 1990, when victoria, whose name we've changed for our broadcast,

apartment parking lot in huntington beach. >> he slammed a gun to my head and he's just like, in my ear, i'm going to kill you so bad. i'm going to throw you off the cliff. >> reporter: victoria was thrown into the back seat of a car and repeatedly sexually assaulted, but she fought back. even lying to her attackers to gain sympathy. >> i remembered saying that i had a kid, i had a baby, and i just thought did they buy that? did they buy that? >> reporter: after what felt like hours, victoria was released. >> i set everything else aside to work this one. >> reporter: there was hope. investigators had dna evidence that yielded profiles for two men. >> i was in a 90% range that we'd get them quickly. >> reporter: it didn't happen. the case went cold. and then -- >> i received a phone call that i waited for for 18 years.

we finally got a dna hit. >> reporter: the dna came back to a man named joseph sun, but they made a surprising discovery. sun was an actor with a role in a hollywood blockbuster, "austin powers, international man of mystery." >> i had his missovie sitting on my rack. i thought are you serious? he's in my home? >> reporter: sun was charged with multiple counts of kidnapping and rape. investigators then arrested a second suspect, joseph sun's high school friend, santiago guiton. but before trial, deputy district attorney eric scarborough made a sickening discovery. >> it was like my stomach hit the floor. >> reporter: the statute of limitations for rape and kidnapping had run out. now scrambling to save his case, he found a glimmer of hope.

because torture carries the possibility of life imprisonment, there is no statute of limitations. there was still going to be an opportunity to bring victoria justice. >> erin, we all gasped when she had the movie at her house so she was looking at him. absolutely. people are going to be so surprised because he played a very distinctive character, if you saw the austin powers movie, and the idea that he would take a high-profile part knowing what he had done earlier. i'm shocked by that. and then the reason why they weren't able to find him, this is 1990, very early on with dna. they had these dna profiles, but both went on with their lives, did not commit any serious crimes, would not have been caught if not for joseph sun getting in a fight with one of his roommates kicking in a car door and then putting in dna. >> wow. >> they would not have been caught. >> it seems like he should be

proved to be irresistible props. don cheadle is the star of the show about a group of morally challenged business consultants. you guys are the first scripted tv show to shoot in cuba. how meaningful is that to you? >> it's amazing and really takes the f inalinale of our show to a place we couldn't imagine possible with a completely different look and ideas and different focus and tones. >> reporter: it was director matthew carnahan along with his wife, actress and director helen hunt, who wanted to bring the show to cuba, but that's much easier said than done. the u.s. embargo is still in place, so the money to finance the shoot had to be wired through canadian banks. u.s. credit cards don't work here, wi-fi is nearly not existent, and some of the production equipment had to be sent in from germany. and then there's the not-so-small matter of government censorship. >> i imagine the government here wanted to know what you were

saying about cuba. how much hands-on do they get on a script on a show like this? >> you don't just come to cuba and shoot whatever you want. they are very protective of a culture that they have here and a system that they have here. so in order to be here today, we submitted a script and an outline months ago. it was reviewed by the cuban government and we were given approvals at various stages. >> reporter: the producers also had to get permission from the u.s. government. the ambassador is in charge of the u.s. embassy in cuba. >> what is the significance of a u.s. television show filming in cuba? >> culture is a very important bridge builder as we forge this new relationship, and so personally i think it's very important. we're receiving a lot of calls and a lot of visitors from different elements of the industry expressing interest. >> reporter: universal pictures

permission to shoot a portion of cuba. but "house of lies" got her first and actress kristen bell has seen a lot of curious cubans. >> it's a curious thing that we're doing because people are walking around with giant cameras on their heads and cars attached to other cars and, you know, a bunch of blondes. and it's interesting, people they stare but they're quiet and cooperative and so hospitable. >> reporter: i asked this woman what she thought of it all. she said she likes it one of the relations between the u.s. and cuba and is glad the show came to her town. and cubans weren't just watching, they were hired as extras and members of the crew. and the cast took their jobs as
